The Smith & Sons Shoal is a slim, ultralight fixed blade that works well for everyday carry or outdoor use. Knife and sheath come in under 5 ounces and the +1.5 mm blade is scalpel sharp for precision cutting. This version has a stonewashed AEB-L blade and red and black “Lunar Eclipse” Richlite scales.
Brand new directly from Smith & Sons.
Blade:Â The straight spine AEB-L stainless steel blade comes with a stonewashed finish that hides wear from use and a full flat grind and thin stock deliver excellent cutting performance. The sub-3″ length makes for easy carry and the thin blade has some flex for fine work like caping, skinning, and filleting.
Handle:Â Flat Richlite handles maintain a slim carry profile with a proud spine and chamfered edges provided a more contoured feel for comfort in hand. The smooth Richlite scales have groove milling, a deep index choil and pommel swell giving a secure grip. An attached lanyard gives added real estate and easy draw. Lanyard color may vary.
Sheath: Carries via a stitched leather belt sheath with removable spring clip.
Bohler AEB-L:Â Similar to Sandvik 13C26, AEB-L (a.k.a. stainless 52100) is a stainless razor blade steel. AEB-L takes a very fine edge, is easy to sharpen and has a high toughness and edge stability with good corrosion resistance. Offers better edge holding than carbon steels and capable of thin high performance geometry.
Richlite Paper Composite: Richlite is a durable, versatile, and sustainable material made from resin-infused paper considered a premium surface material in aerospace, architecture, and design. Layers of high quality custom craft paper create a unique surface texture from the natural variation in the paper fibers. Richlite’s color comes from a combination of the paper and amber toned resin and has a composition of approximately 65% FSC-certified or recycled paper content and 35% phenolic resin.
